The Conservatory Program

Stages Theatre Company’s Acting Conservatory, Junior Conservatory, and Center Stage Program are designed to offer students ages 7 – 17 a variety of challenging and rewarding training opportunities.

The Acting Conservatory is designed for students 12-17 years old. It is a comprehensive four-year program in which students receive high quality acting training with specific curriculum for each year. In a safe and open environment, students explore and express their individuality, build self-confidence and gain knowledge of acting techniques. Placement is by audition only.

The Junior Conservatory is designed for students 9-11 years old. This program is for the very beginning actor as well as students who have had previous training and experience. Through theatre games and exercises, students explore the art of transforming stories into theatre. Students will learn about a variety of acting and audition skills without the pressure of competition. Basic acting techniques and stage terminology will be studied.

Center Stage is designed for students 7-8 years old. It is fun introductory acting class that will stimulate the students’ creativity and imagination. Each session introduces a different theme that the students will explore.

Program Philosophy

Stages Theatre Company’s Conservatory programs provide young people with excellent, innovative and enriching theatre arts training. Our classes are structured for the growth and enjoyment of the beginning student through the advanced performer. Through their work in Conservatory, students can explore and express their individuality, build self-confidence, and gain new knowledge and understanding of acting techniques.

Stages Theatre Company calls upon some of the professional theatre community by utilizing the finest teaching artists in the Twin Cities area. Conservatory resident and guest instructors create a flexible program that is adjusted each year to meet the needs of our students. Class size is limited to allow for one-on-one work between the student and the instructor.

Profile of A Conservatory Student

We accept individuals who demonstrate a strong desire and commitment to acting and theatre. Students in the Acting Conservatory and Junior Conservatory are expected to demonstrate ongoing dedication to the development of their acting skills. These include discipline, talent, commitment, generosity, concentration, perseverance and ensemble building.
