Sandy Boren-Barrett, Artistic Director
Sandy Boren-Barrett has been with Stages Theatre Company (STC) since 1990, allowing her to pursue a dual passion for theatre production and arts education. For 15 years, she led a team of artists and educators in an award-winning education and outreach department at STC.
Boren-Barrett has served on an advisory panel with the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Design Team for the Minneapolis Public Schools initiative Arts for Academic Achievement. She is currently serving on the Board of Directors for Minnesota Citizens for the Arts (MCA). She has written several articles for publication on the topic of arts integration, and collaborated on the STC standards-based, theatre curriculums Make a Scene, In My Own Voice, and Stages Theatre Company Theatre Arts and Literature Curriculum.
An accomplished director, Boren-Barrett has directed more than 30 productions at STC, which included 20 new works, such as “The Mitten” by Jan Brett, “Nutcracker” (the first production at the Hopkins Center for the Arts), “Little Woman” and “Aladdin and his Magical Lamp”. Boren-Barrett co-directed the Mu Performing Arts and Stages Theatre Company collaboration, “Baseball Saved Us” at Mixed Blood Theatre.
John Montilino, Managing Director
John Montilino joined Stages Theatre Company (STC) in 2004 as its Managing Director. He has more than 16 years of experience in all aspects of nonprofit management. Montilino served as Managing Director at the Illusion Theater for 12 years creating a history of financial health, and improved confidence and respect for the theatre from staff, stakeholders and the nonprofit community.
Prior to joining STC, Montilino served as the Chief Administrative Officer at Pillsbury United Communities for nearly five years. During his tenure there, Montilino implemented the installation of the Wide Area Network that served 250 users and 13 locations. He also initiated and managed the design and installation of an agency-wide, contact-management, database system. He designed and applied financial controls that markedly improved accountability and financial health. Montilino previously worked as a nonprofit management consultant at The Stevens Group, and as an instructor of nonprofit management at Saint Mary’s University. In September 1994, the Minnesota Nonprofit Assistance Fund published Montilino’s report “Refocusing on Community: The 1994 Report on the Financial Health of Minnesota’s Nonprofits.” During his tenure, Montilino’s financial system design has supported STC’s long-range, sustainability plans for financial stability.
