How I Became a Pirate

Regional Premiere. When young Jeremy Jacobs is invited aboard, pirate captain Braid Beard and his scurvy crew accompany the child as they sail in search of buried treasure. Hilarious moments abound as the captain and crew (Stubby Barbossa and Wheezing Stephen McGee among them) sing and dance their way over the bounding main. Based on the Award-winning book by Melinda Long and illustrator David Shannon, this lively musical will send you home laughing and growling "Arrrrrr, Matey!"

World Premiere. Santa has asked his loyal elves to bring pieces of their favorite material to create a very special toy. Peef the Christmas Bear is a multi-colored stuffed teddy created and brought to life to keep Santa company. Peef, however, believes he should belong to a child who needs him. Based on the book by local writer Tom Hegg and illustrator Warren Hanson, this brand new musical version of Peef the Christmas Bear is destined to find a place in your heart.

Chad Henry has created a charming musical sure to delight everyone who has ever read (or has had read to them) this lovely picture book by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrator Clement Hurd. This is the metropolitan Twin Cities' first production of this brand new classic.

For Twin Cities teenager Charlotte and her British cousin Zee, the answer means an adventure for the ages, with a journey to the underworld of Greek mythology, and the more mundane problems faced when your parents don't quite understand why you have to go. Regional Premiere. Six students are stuck in detention, each for a different reason. When one of them reveals a book called "Aesop's Fables," the fun begins. Mixing the modern world of young teenagers with the wonderful lessons of the Tortoise and the Hare, the Ant and the Grasshopper, and other beloved stories, former Stages Theatre Company child participant Michael Mahler (composer for Stages Theatre's CinderEdna) and Alan Schmuckler have created an original musical comedy.

World Premiere. During World War II, Japanese Americans were interned in camps inside the continental United States. These American citizens were treated as threats by their own government and forced to live in dwellings surrounded by barbed wire. This is the story of how some of these families dealt with their captivity through the use of the great American pastime. A collaboration with Mu Performing Arts and Mixed Blood Theatre, you will be inspired by Katie Leo 's adaptation of the Award-winning book by Ken Mochizuki and illustrator Dom Lee.

The Paper Bag Princess

World Premiere. The Prince has been captured by a dragon. It's up to the Princess Elizabeth to rescue him. In this "turnabout" classic, Robert Munsch created and empowered a heroine strong enough and smart enough to defeat a dragon. This is the latest offering from Jennifer Kirkeby and Shirley Mier , the playwright/composer team that brought Madeline's Christmas and The Mitten by Jan Brett to the audience of Stages Theatre Company.
