AUDITIONS AT STAGES


We typically audition youth ages 10-18 for our productions. Adult actor auditions will be posted as needed. We begin taking audition appointments 2 weeks prior to the audition dates listed below. Auditions, rehearsals & performances are held at Stages Theatre Company, located in the Hopkins Center for the Arts, 1111 Mainstreet, Hopkins 55343.

Please contact our Audition Coordinator Emily Sullivan by emailing esullivan@stagestheatre.org about any accommodations you may need for your upcoming audition with us. We are happy to provide materials in advance, large print scripts, or other requests as needed. Just ask!

Auditions for Stuart Little are scheduled for Monday, July 25th and Tuesday, July 26th, with call backs on Wednesday, July 27th. Auditions are by appointment only. The audition signup form will go live on Monday, July 11th. A link will be located right here on this page on Monday, July 11th.

SEEKING: Youth actors ages 10-18. Also seeking two adult actors, one a piano-playing actor and the other an instrument-playing actor (any instrument). For the adult roles, there is one male character and one female character.

AUDITION PREPERATION: All actors should prepare a short story to tell. If proficient in any instrument, please bring that instrument with you to the audition (keyboard provided).

Health & Safety Statement: For this production, all those auditioning must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 by their assigned audition date. A booster dose is required of everyone cast in the show, if eligible. During auditions and rehearsals, all performers & Stages staff will be required to wear a face mask. A Different Pond

SEEKING: Four youth and two adult performers of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) heritage, with a preference to performers of Vietnamese heritage, for the world-premiere adaptation of Bao Phi's A Different Pond. Character descriptions listed below.

AUDITION PREPERATION: Those interested in auditioning should prepare and memorize a monologue or story of their choosing, not to exceed 90 seconds.

A Different Pond is presented in collaboration with Theater Mu.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

  • DUY: Male-identifying, 9-10 years old. Vietnamese-American. The youngest son. A shy yet indiscreet boy with a big imagination who desperately wants to help his family and better understand the world.

  • BA ("Father"): Male-identifying, 40-60 years old. Bao's father, a Vietnamese refugee. A traditional breadwinner type with a sensitive and silly edge. Some Vietnamese proficiency preferred, but not required.

  • MÁ ('Mother'): Female-identifying, 40-50 years old. Bao's mother, a Vietnamese refugee. Hardened but humorous, a negging and loving woman who knows exactly where everything is and should be. Some Vietnamese proficiency preferred, but not required. Double-cast with MEE. The bait shop owner's wife. A slightly grouchy auntie type who loves her Asian films.

  • QUANG: Male-identifying, 15-18 years old. Bao's older brother, the eldest child. Now Vietnamese-American, though he is old enough to have memories of Viet Nam. A mischievous boy who never had the privilege of figuring things out. Double-cast with QUAN. Ba's brother, as shown in the past.

  • NHI: Female-identifying, 12-14 years old. Bao's older sister, the middle child. Vietnamese-American. A motherly girl fighting to establish herself while still taking care of those she loves. Double-cast with LAN , Ba's sister, as shown in the past. Ability to sing a plus.

  • HUY: Male-identifying, 10-12 years old. Bao's cousin from Ba's side who has been adopted into the family after losing his parents in the war. Vietnamese-American. Reserved yet shameless, a boy trying to find his place in the world with little expectations. Double-cast with YOUNG BA.

ABOUT THEATER MU: Theater Mu is the second largest Asian American theater company in the nation. Founded in 1992, Mu’s continuing goal to celebrate and empower the Asian American community through theater is achieved through mainstage productions, emerging artist support, and educational outreach programs.
