We are thrilled to present two learning models for the Fall of 2020 that will allow all students to safely participate in classes at Stages Theatre Company. The Acting Conservatory Program will be offering a HYBRID MODEL and a VIRTUAL MODEL, please see information below for more details.

COVID-19 Safety Procedures & Fall 2020 Class Structure


HYBRID MODEL
Classes will rotate weekly between an in-person meeting, and a virtual meeting. In-person classes will be capped at 9 students.

VIRTUAL MODEL
Virtual Model: All Classes will take place virtually in a “Zoom” classroom.

CLASS OFFERINGS FOR BOTH MODELS

All classes also include 5 additional video lessons AND “Flip-Grid” weekly theatre challenges. Topics may include: character creation, singing, dancing, physical and vocal actor warm-ups, playwriting, theatre design, mindfulness for the actor, and creative story making.

All lesson content is geared for each learning grade level.

Temporary Box Office Hours: Mon-Fri, Noon to 4:00 pm
Full payment is due at the time of registration. Payment plans are available. There is a $5 handling fee added per student. A $25 deposit (part of your registration fee) and all handling fees are non-refundable. Refunds will be issued (minus deposit and handling fee) if you cancel at least one week prior to the class start date.

TEACHING ARTISTS FOR ACTING CONSERVATORY


Megan Collins
(Teaching Artist)
Megan serves as Stages's Education Director and first attended Summer Theatre Workshop as a student when she was in Grades 1-3! A Broadway fanatic, Megan loves listening to Frozen and Matilda, but has become a recent fan of Queen of Mean. While she'd love to have purple hair like Mal, she'd also really enjoy being a chemistry wiz like Evie!
Jeannine Coulombe
(Teaching Artist)
Acting Teaching Artist, Playwright, Director - Jeannine has been a teaching artist with Stages Theatre Company since 2002 and on staff since 2008. She has taught acting, creative dramatics and playwriting for ages 3 through 83 for over 20 years. She serves as Stages Conservatory Director and the Manager of New Plays. She is also a playwright and director and an avid reader of books of all kinds! She loves to tell stories, listen to stories and play with stories. She is also a confirmed Potterhead (Ravenclaw, for sure!)
Laura Mahler
(Teaching Artist)
Singing + Dancing & Acting Teaching Artist, Director, Choreographer- Laura started with Stages Theatre Company long ago as an 8 year old actor. She grew up taking all of the classes and conservatory programs and eventually used her training to graduate from The Goodman School of Drama- Depaul's Theatre Conservatory program in Chicago. For the past 10 years, she has been back in MN working for Stages as an Education Associate, teaching Middle School Drama at The FAIR School, Crystal. She also choreographs productions for the mainstage, directs after school shows and has taught in the Conservatory program and teaches hip hop dance with ESCALATE DANCE. When she is not teaching, you may remember seeing her onstage as MRS GLOOP in last summer's WILLY WONKA! She also loves to Roller Skate and plays Roller Derby with MINNESOTA ROLLER DERBY! Matt Ouren
(Teaching Artist))
Singing + Dancing Teaching Artist, Composer, Actor - Matt is a Stages Theatre Company Creative Play Academy and Conservatory teacher and appears regularly on our mainstage. He's been in Spookley the Square Pumpkins THREE times and he's appeared in and composed the music for our Theatre for the Very Young Production of Leo Lionni’s Inch by Inch. Other credits include: Fish in a Tree, The Nightingale, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Shrek The Musical, and many more.

PRIMARY STAGES - Grades 1-3

FIRST STAGE (GRADE 1)

WHEN: TUESDAY 4:30PM -6:00PM
CLASS DATES: September 22, 29, October 6, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17, December 1, 8
FINAL PERFORMANCE via Zoom: December 15 4:30PM
Our youngest students explore stories, create characters and play constructive acting games designed to build their actor tools—body, voice and imagination—and learn what it means to perform for an audience. For Fall we will focus on transforming stories from books into stories to act out.
COST: $185
per student, per session, plus a $5 handling fee.

CENTER STAGE (GRADE 2-3) - WEDNESDAY

WHEN: WEDNESDAY 4:30PM-6:30PM
CLASS DATES: September 23, 30, October 7, 21, 28, November 4, 11, 18, December 2, 9
FINAL PERFORMANCE via Zoom: December 16 4:30PM
Students step-up their actor training to build self-confidence and their acting skills – body, voice and imagination—while creating characters, constructing scenes, performing scripts, and practicing beginning musical theatre skills. For Fall we will focus on creating our own story to act out.
COST: $275
per student, per session, plus a $5 handling fee.

JUNIOR ACTING CONSERVATORY - Grades 4-6


JUNIOR CONSERVATORY (GRADE 4-6) - WEDNESDAY

WHEN: WEDNESDAY 4:30PM-6:30PM
CLASS DATES: September 23, 30, October 7, 21, 28, November 4, 11, 18, December 2, 9
FINAL PERFORMANCE via Zoom: December 16 5:30PM
Students delve into their actor training and develop acting skills through creating original work, playing with improvisation, performing scripts, studying character creation, working in an ensemble, and learning the rehearsal process. For Fall we will focus on acting out a story we create as an ensemble.
COST: $275
per student, per session, plus a $5 handling fee.

JUNIOR MUSICAL THEATRE (GRADE 5-6)

WHEN: TUESDAY 4:30PM-6:30PM
CLASS DATES: September 22, 29, October 6, 20, 27, November 3, 10, 17, December 1, 8
FINAL PERFORMANCE via Zoom: December 15 5:30PM
Students learn to tell stories through the art of musical theatre with an in-depth development of the triple skills of singing, dancing, and acting. Students learn to portray characters through singing, dancing and acting in musical theatre scenes, songs and show-stopping numbers. In addition to live dance and acting classes (in-person and Zoom) students will have five 30-minute on-line voice lesson sessions and five 30-minute sessions of video dance instruction.
COST: $275
per student, per session, plus a $5 handling fee.

ADVANCED JUNIOR CONSERVATORY (GRADE 5-6)

WHEN: THURSDAY 4:30PM-6:30PM
CLASS DATES: September 24, October 1, 8, 22, 29, November 5, 12, 19, December 3, 10
FINAL PERFORMANCE via Zoom: December 17 4:30PM
Students further develop their acting skills by engaging in a more in-depth approach to their actor training through collaborating with fellow actors on original work, improvisation, the rehearsal process and character creation. DESIGNED for students who have some experience on stage and/or have taken acting classes or workshops. For Fall we will focus on creating story through monologues.
COST: $275
per student, per session, plus a $5 handling fee.

TEEN ACTING CONSERVATORY - Grades 7-12

TEEN ACTING FUNDAMENTALS (GRADE 7-12)

WHEN: MONDAY 4:30PM-6:30PM
CLASS DATES: September 21, 28, October 5, 19, 26, November 2, 9, 16, 30, December 7
FINAL PERFORMANCE via Zoom: December 14 4:30PM
An in-depth acting intensive designed for the teen performer to develop acting skills and performing confidence through exploring monologues, scenes and improvisation. Students learn to prepare their body, mind and voice for performance; study how to approach a script; make strong character choices; and work as an ensemble. For Fall, we will focus on building characters through monologues and improvisation.
COST: $275
per student, per session, plus a $5 handling fee.

TEEN MUSICAL THEATRE (GRADE 7-12)

WHEN: THURSDAY 4:30PM-6:30PM
CLASS DATES: September 24, October 1, 8, 22, 29, November 5, 12, 19, December 3, 10
FINAL PERFORMANCE via Zoom: December 17 5:30PM
Students learn to tell stories through the art of musical theatre with an in-depth development of the triple skills of singing, dancing, and acting. Students learn to portray characters through singing, dancing and acting in musical theatre scenes, songs and show-stopping numbers. We will be using musical numbers from popular, contemporary musicals as well as diving into the full Broadway musical canon. All students will have a chance to work on individual songs as well as group numbers. In addition to live (in-person and Zoom) dance and acting classes, students will have five 30-minute live online voice lessons and five 30-minute sessions of video dance instruction.
COST: $275
per student, per session, plus a $5 handling fee.

TEEN ADVANCED TRAINING TRACK 2, CREATIVE THEATRE MAKING (GRADE 7-12)

WHEN: MONDAY 4:30PM-6:30PM
CLASS DATES: September 21, 28, October 5, 19, 26, November 2, 9, 16, 30, December 7
FINAL PERFORMANCE via Zoom: December 14 5:30PM
This Fall our Teen Advanced Training students will dive into creative theatre making through multiple mediums, including Zoom, video, graphic design, writing, animation, music and acting. Tell the stories you want to tell. Learn to express your ideas through performance and other creative mediums to say what you want to have heard.
*Students in advanced training need to have completed Advanced Training Track 1 or the equivalent or have required experience on stage and in classes. *please contact Jeannine Coulombe for placement.
COST: $275

Stages Acting Conservatory Program: COVID-19 Policies for In-Person Classes

Student and Staff safety is of utmost importance for all classes and productions at Stages Theatre Company.
Stages Theatre Company will be adhering to all requirements and recommendations given by the CDC, Minnesota Department of Health, Minnesota Department of Education, and Executive Orders issued by Governor Tim Walz.
Stages Theatre Company will be tracking the amount of COVID-19 cases in Hennepin County, and reserves the right to transition in-person classes to virtual classes for the following reasons:
  • The case count in the local area rises above the recommended ratio for a “Hybrid Learning for All Students” model, as noted in the Safe Learning Plan developed by the MDE, MDH and Governor Tim Walz
  • A Student, Teacher, or Stages Theatre Company Staff Member is exposed to COVID-19
  • A Student, Teacher, or Stages Theatre Company Staff Member tests positive for COVID-19
    A refund will not be given should classes transition from in-person classes, to virtual classes for one of the reasons noted above.

    Additional COVID-19 Safety Procedures
  • All in-person classes will be held in the most well-ventilated spaces at the Hopkins Center for the Arts with strict cleaning guidelines.
  • All students and teachers will be required to wear masks for in-person learning, and temperatures will be taken prior to the start of class
  • All classes will practice social distancing during instruction
  • No live singing will be done in-person
  • Informed Consent to Participate in In-Person Classes
  • All students & families will be required to submit an Informed Consent to Participate form, regarding participation in an in-person activity during COVID-19.
