CREATIVE PLAY (Ages 2-5)


Dramatic play, music, and movement build confidence in young people…while also being an excellent outlet for energy & fun! Creative play lays the groundwork for collaborative learning, fosters social-emotional and motor skills development, and cultivates a sense of discovery & empathy in young students. Watch as your little one develops their inner artist and see their creativity bloom!






Play-A-Day: Ages 2-3 (Stay & Play)

Activate your child’s creative side through a guided stay-and-play class that includes a new story each week, music, movement, and sensory play! Teaching Artists will play alongside you, guiding each young person and their caregiver through a sensory-stimulating, fun-filled, creative story time.
Tuition: $95.00 (includes $5 handling fee)

Tuesdays, April 11 – May 16 from 10:30-11:15am HOPKINS

Story Drama: Ages 3-4 (Drop-off)

Each class highlights a new story, with a new jumping off point for dramatic adventure. Using our favorite books as our guide, students will journey through different environments, discover characters, and solve problems using their bodies, voices & imaginations!

Drama Adventures: Ages 4-5 (Drop-off)

Your student’s imagination will be our guide as we traverse on epic dramatic adventures! Together, we’ll discover characters, travel to new and surprising worlds, tackle obstacles, and solve problems as we create a brand-new story each week.

SUMMER 2023: MINI-WORKSHOPS

MINI-WORKSHOPS (Ages 3-4)


This summer, students Ages 3-4 can experience a mini-version of Summer Theatre Workshop designed just for them! Each day of “mini-workshop” will highlight a new story, with a new jumping off point for dramatic adventure. Using our favorite books as our guide, students will journey through different environments, discover characters and solve problems using their “Actor Tools” – their bodies, voices & imaginations! Families are invited to a sharing of skills learned throughout the week on the last day of workshop.

    (Kindergarten – Grade 3)


    Students learn to use their “Actor Tools”—body, voice, and imagination – to play, create and tell stories! Theatre Exploration classes incorporate age-appropriate acting games, dramatic play, music, storytelling, and theatre making. Students share their work for family and friends during the final day of class.


    Backstage Pass: Newsies Jr. (Grades K-1 & Grades 2-3)

    Put your “maker” and “creator” skills to use this spring and jump into the world of Stages Theatre Company’s production of Disney’s Newsies, JR. Through hands-on projects, crafts, and acting exercises, students will explore the elements it takes to bring a show to life – from costumes, to choreography, to sound, to set design!

    ACTOR TRAINING (Grades 4-8)



    Students delve into their actor training through a series of leveled classes designed to build performance skills and confidence and develop student artists for success in whatever they may pursue. Students examine devised and scripted work, explore the use of body, voice, and imagination to create characters, learn ensemble-building and acting techniques, and work through the rehearsal process.

    Spring Session is filled with electives designed to give students of all levels & abilities a crash course in specialized theatrical disciplines! No prior experience is required. Come prepared to have fun, try something new, and add a new skillset to your actor’s toolbox! Age ranges are expanded to include all ACTOR TRAINING students age-eligible to audition for Stages Theatre Company productions.


    Acting for the Camera (Grades 4-8)

    Whether it’s a close-up or wide-angle shot, you want to make sure you look your best when the camera starts rolling. In this class, students will learn what it takes to transition their acting for the stage skills, to the specific and technical world of on-camera work. Come learn some tricks of the trade for making an effective impression on camera and have some fun while doing it.

    Audition (Grades 4-8)


    Being cast in a show is the goal of any actor, but before you get there, you need to nail the audition. Join Stages Theatre Company teaching artists to learn some effective strategies for how to audition with confidence. Students will be given a monologue, rehearse an audition song, and receive coaching on their delivery, and participate in a mock audition to simulate a “real life experience” in this exciting and practical class.

    Physical Comedy (Grades 4-8)

    There may be nothing funnier than a well-executed, exaggerated physical performance. Whether it be a timely pratfall, or simply an over-the-top character, physical comedy can leave your audiences aching with laughter. Guided by professional teaching artists, learn how to nail the timing and craft of sheer goofiness alongside your fellow actors.

    Stage Combat (Grades 4-8)

    From the swashbuckling swordfights in Shakespearean tragedies, to modern-day choreographed duels in Hamilton stage combat is one of the most exciting, and technically challenging, parts of a show! From big battles to small scuffles, we’ll learn how to safely punch, kick, tackle, stab, wrestle, throw, fall, and slap each other around the stage, without hurting yourself or others. This could honestly be the most fun you have all year.

    TUITION ASSISTANCE


    Tuition assistance is available through our Open Door Program, we offer need-based tuition assistance for our fee-based programs,, including all education camps, classes, and workshops. Please fill out the Tuition Assistance Application via the button below.

    CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS


    You may cancel your class or workshop up to THREE WEEKS prior to the start of class, for any reason, and receive a full refund – minus the $5 handling fee. Call the Box Office at 952-979-1111, option 4.
     

    COVID-19 POLICIES


    Stages Theatre Company will continue to follow the advice and guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health and the CDC.  The safety & well-being of our students, staff and teaching artists is our top priority, and we reserve the right to change our protocols if community levels of COVID-19 rise in our area.
    Face Masks: Masks are optional for all Education Programs & Classes at this time.  Stages Theatre Company Education Programs will follow the updated guidelines regarding face masks put forth by the MDH & CDC.  Stages Theatre Company will not be checking students vaccination status at this time.
    Positive COVID-19 Cases: If your student tests positive for COVID-19 while enrolled in a class, please notify Stages Education Director, Megan Collins, as soon as possible.  If you your student tests positive for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status, they will be required to stay home for at least 5 days.
    Close Contact Protocols:  Your family will be notified by a Stages staff member if your student is a close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19.  Students do not need to quarantine and can return to class, regardless of vaccination status.  Students will be required to wear a well-fitting mask for 10 days following the close contact exposure.
    Student Health: Students who are sick are kindly asked to stay home to help mitigate the spread of illness and germs.  If your student is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, they will NOT be permitted in class, without proof of a negative test, regardless of vaccination status.

    DROP OFF 


    We will begin checking students in NO EARLIER than 10 MINUTES prior to class start.
     
    1. Students can be dropped off at the Main Entrance of the building/school in the designated loading zone.
    2. Pull into the open space closest to the Stages sign.
    3. PLEASE STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE. Our staff will meet students at the vehicle.
    4. A brief check-in will be completed at your vehicle: emergency contact numbers will be checked on the first day of class.
    5. Our staff will escort students into the building to begin class!
     
    If you would prefer to walk your student in, you are welcome to do so. Please park and meet us in the main lobby.
    Concerned about drop off Policies?: Please contact Elinor, Education Registrar, at ejones@stagestheatre.org to discuss an alternate drop-off plan.

    Pick up will begin promptly at the end of class.
