Residencies and Partnerships

Greetings from the Education Department,

Did you know that Stages can come to your school and be and dynamic part of your school’s programming? We can! Here is where we are this year.

We are fully integrated into many schools throughout the Twin Cities. We have a full year residency at the French American School of Minneapolis we use a bilingual approach to education to create the Petit Concert d’Hiver and a staged play in the spring. At Academy of Whole Learning, every Thursday through the school year, the whole student population uses theatre as a way to learn social and communication skills. Integrated Arts Academy of District 112 comes to the Hopkins Center for the Arts to stretch their imaginations and devise, design, and direct their own creations.

For two years in a row, Stages Theatre Company has received an Arts Learning Grant from the Minnesota State Art’s Board to work with students across the state on Perspectives on Peace.  This year, we are at Main Street School of Performing Arts, FAIR School Crystal, Maple Grove Middle School, and our greater Minnesota sites are, Minneota, Virginia, and Big Fork. At each site, we take over an English room or Social Studies and discuss the big question, “What does peace mean to you?”  Students then reflect, write, and create their own performance which they share with their school and communities.

Rice Lake Elementary in Maple Grove and Basswood Elementary in Brooklyn Park, have been singing, dancing, and rehearsing Disney’s Lion King Jr. this year.  For 7 weeks, the students gather telling a story about friendship and responsibility. We are excited to cultivate a long standing relationship with these schools.

In keeping those relationships, we are back again at Moreland Arts and Health Sciences Magnet School for our 6th year working on Stone Soup. Every single 4th grader is involved in this project and every single student at the school, Kindergarten through 4th grade, will see it. Moreland is composed of wonderful teachers and administrators who believe in the power of collaboration and big ideas. Stages is so proud to be a part of their community.

New friends or old, the Education Program is proud to bring theatre and arts education to schools all over the metro. Every voice, every stage, every day…
