Education Corner: Jan 2018 – Summer Theatre Workshops

As Education Director, I say this a lot and I MEAN it every time: We are not in the business of making stars—we are in the business of making people. Stages Summer Theatre Workshop is a safe place to try new things, make new friends, and spend a week studying what you love or just having a new experience. Every week is different as our wonderful teaching artists truly work with who is the room. There are workshops that are geared for students who want an intensive study in musical theatre or playwriting; but there are also workshops geared for embracing creativity and building confidence (which is something any of us could enjoy.)

  • Classes & Information will be announced: Tuesday, January 16th
  • Registration opens for Season Subscribers: Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 12 Noon  (Phone and Box Office only)
  • Registration opens for General Public: Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at 12 Noon (Online, Phone and Box Office)

We offer wonderful programming for ages 4-17 starting June 18 and running through August 17. What I love about our Summer Theatre Workshop is all of our workshops are lead by professional theatre artists who promote an atmosphere of having fun, building confidence, and making big creative choices. We have 5-day workshops primarily with each week culminating in a shared performance. We feature creative dramatics for preschoolers; musical theatre and storytelling basics for 7-9 year olds; devising original stories and musical theatre techniques for 9-13 year olds; playwriting and stage combat-inspired page-to-stage work with 12-17 year olds; and also offer a 3 week full-production workshop of Madagascar Jr. complete with set, costumes, lights, and sound. Additionally we have another great 3-week program for actors ages 10-15 affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder, called CAST Summer Showtime. There is extended day offered in the morning and afternoon for ages 7-17 to accommodate anyone as well as lunch care for our younger actors ages 4-6 between day sessions.  Finally Tuition assistance is available for every program through our Open Door Program. Stages Theatre Company is dedicated to creating a space where diverse opinions, courageous dialogue, and local, national, and international community engagement is not only valued, but vital to our shared artistic and educational success. We make this pledge in the hope of curating a welcome home for all. Summer Theatre Workshop has a place for you this summer! Come play!
