All the drama, pathos, adventure, terror and humor of Lois Lowry’s Newbery Award winning book come to life in our intimate Hopkins Jaycees Studio this spring. Annemarie Johansen and Ellen Rosen play carefree games in the streets of 1943 Copenhagen, until the Nazi occupation of their city becomes increasingly more perilous. Experience Annemarie’s dangerous mission to save her best friend’s life as her courage, faith, ingenuity and even fledgling acting skills are all tested in this engaging production.

Jennifer D’Lynn Aasen (Mrs. Sophy Rosen/Ensemble) Jennifer is on stage with Stages Theatre Company for the first time. She has appeared in productions with Theatre in the Round, Shakespeare & Company, and Lakeshore Players Theatre.
Natalie Dekker (Woman with Baby/Ensemble/Ellen Understudy) Natalie is back on stage with Stages Theatre Company in her fifth production. She previously appeared in Zen Shorts, Llama Llama Holiday Drama, Rudoph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical, and The Little Mermaid Jr. Natalie has also appeared in productions with Burnsville Civic Light Opera, Chaska Valley Family Theater, Prior Lake Players, Eagan Community Theater, and Actor’s Theater of Minnesota. “Thank you to my mom and dad for always being there to support me in everything I do, strive to do, and be in life.”
Nyle Dickel (Samuel Hirsch/Ensemble) We are excited to have Nyle in his Stages Theatre Company debut. He is 13 years old and in the 7th grade. He likes to play football and basketball, his favorite food is oranges or bananas, and he has three siblings, a dog, and a fish. “I can accept failing, but I cannot except not trying” – Michael Jordan
Theodore Emo (Peter Neilsen/The Giraffe) We are excited to have Theodore back at Stages Theatre Company for his eighth production. He previously appeared in Holes, Bridge to Terabithia, The Secret Garden, Llama Llama Holiday Drama, The Wiz, James and the Giant Peach, and Twelve Dancing Princesses. Theodore has also appeared in productions with Top Hat Theatre Company and Minnetonka High School. “I am very glad to be able to be a part of another Stages production.”
Anna Hickey (Mrs. Inge Johansen) Anna is returning to the Stages Theatre Company stage for her second production, having previoulsy appeared in Twelve Dancing Princesses. She has been a choreographer for our produtions of Twelve Dancing Princesses and The Snow Queen. Anna has also performed in productions with Park Square Theatre, Walking Shadow Theatre, Illusion Theatre, Hennepin Theatre Trust, Loudmouth Collective, Four Humors Theatre, Paul Bunyan Playhouse, Bloomington Civic Theatre, Red Eye Collaboration, and Pillsbury House Theatre. “I can lick my elbow. For real.”
Sally-Anne Hunt (Kirstie Johansen) We are excited to have Sally-Anne appearing in her first production with Stages Theatre Company. She has appeared in productions with Guthrie Theater, Seasons Dinner Theater, and Lakeshore Players Theatre. She is 11 years old and in the 6th grade. Sally-Anne loves reading, acting, playing outside and climbing trees. She is especially grateful for this opportunity; Number the Stars is one of her favorite books. “Thank you to the fantastic cast and crew for making this wonderful story come to life.”
Clare Judge (Ensemble) Clare is returning to Stages Theatre Company for her ninth production, having previously appeared in Bridge to Terabithia, Llama Llama Red Pajama, Owl Moon, Seussical, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical, Twelve Dancing Princesses, Junie B. Jones – The Musical, and The Snow Queen. She has also appeared in productions with Minnetonka High School Skippers Showstoppers and St. Therese Middle School. Clare is 15 years old and in the 9th grade. Clare would like to thank her parents and her brothers for getting her to rehearsals and performances on time!
Grace Lynch (Annemarie Johansen) We are excited to have Grace in her Stages Theatre Company debut. She has been a student in our Acting Conservatory program for four years. Grace is 13 years old and in the 8th grade. “I enjoy art, especially painting and sculpting, debate, performing arts, kayaking, and camping. I’d like to thank my family for being so supportive and encouraging me to audition, and my acting teachers at Stages for helping me discover how much I love theater.”
Arden Michalec (Ensemble) Arden is returning to Stages Theatre Company for her seventh production. She previously appeared in Sideways Stories from Wayside School, The Mitten, True Story of the Three Little Pigs, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, Little Mermaid Jr., and A Charlie Brown Christmas. Arden has also appeared in productions with Pioneer Place, Clear Springs Elementary, and Prairie Fire Theatre. She is 12 years old and in the 7th grade. “I want to thank Maryn, Bella, Clea, Zoe and Ellie for being some of the best theatre buds out there.”
Greta Nackerud (Ensemble/Annemarie Understudy) We are excited to have Greta back on stage with Stages Theatre Company for the fourth time. She has previously appeared in Goodnight Moon, One Dog Canoe and Bear Snores On. Greta has also appeared in productions with St. Louis Park Middle School and Carpe Diem. She is 15 years old and in the 9th grade. “If I’m not acting, you can find me in the library with my nose in a book. I would like to thank my parents and grandparents for supporting me in so many ways.”
Matt Ouren (Papa Johansen/Soldier) Matt is back on the stage at Stages Theatre Company. He previously appeared in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Aladdin Jr., Duck for President, Giggle Giggle Quack, Cathy’s Creek, Boxcar Children: Yellow House Mystery, Lord of the Flies, Peter Rabbit, and Huck Finn. Matt has also appeared in productions with Mission Theatre Company, Youth Performance Company, and Shoestring Players.
Hannah Paulsen (Mrs. Hirsch/Ensemble) Hannah is returning to Stages Theatre Company for her eleventh production, having previously been a part of A Charlie Brown Christmas; Twelve Dancing Princesses; Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical; Diary of a Worm, Spider, and Fly; One Dog Canoe; Junie B. Jones – The Musical; Zen Ties; and Duck for President. She has also appeared in productions with Theatre in the Round, Lakeshore Players Theatre, Ashland Productions, and The Phipps. “I love all things theatre and have helped productions in various roles; cast member, light board, costume crew, and assistant stage managing. I’m thankful to Stages Theatre for igniting my passion for theatre.”
Bruce Rowan (Uncle Henrik Knudsen/Soldier) Bruce has been with Stages Theatre Company since 1992. He has worn many hats over the years, including Manager of New Play Development, from which he recently retired. He has appeared in many productions including Llama Llama Holiday Drama, Duck for President, A Silent Night of Peef, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical. Bruce has been lucky enough to perform alongside his wife Sharon, and sons Jake and Nate in many Stages Theatre Company productions.
Rebekah Sheih (Ellen Rosen) We are excited to have Rebekah on stage with Stages Theatre Company for the first time. She has appeared in productions with Minnesota Opera, Children’s Theatre Company, and Front Porch Musical Theatre. Rebekah is 15 years old and in the 9th grade. Special thanks to her family, her teachers, and God. She studies kick and jazz dance, and enjoys singing in foreign languages.
Lucas Schutz (Ensemble) Lucas is making his Stages Theatre Company debut. He is 11 years old and in the 5th grade. “Thank you to my mom and dad, as well as my teacher, Amy Scott, for encouraging me to pursue acting! Don’t judge a book by its cover!”
Kaelan Tonjes (Mr. Rosen/Soldier) We are excited to have Kaelan back at Stages Theatre Company in his fourth production, having previously appeared in Duck for President, Cinder Edna, and Goodnight Moon. He has also appeared in productions with Main Street School of Performing Arts High School, Eden Prairie Players, and Chaska Valley Family Theatre. Kaelan is 15 years old, in the 9th grade and a member of his high school’s speech team where he does extemporaneous speaking.
Lily Wangerin (Ensemble/Kirstie Understudy) We are excited to have Lily on stage with Stages Theatre Company for the first time. She has appeared in productions with Jungle Theater, Children’s Theatre Company, Walking Shadow Theatre Company, Youth Performance Company, SteppingStone Theater, Fridley Community Theater, St. Anthony Community Theater, St. Matthew’s Community Theater, and Rosetown Playhouse. Lily is 10 years old and in the 5th grade. “I love gymnastics and anything to do with animals! Thanks to my family for their support!”
