Stages Theatre Company and entire Twin Cities arts community lost a dear friend, collaborator, magic maker and genuine legend. Michael Matthew Ferrell fought a courageous battle with cancer. We will miss him dearly!
Michael's many collaborations with Stages Theatre included: Peace 4 the Ages, Elf the Musical, Jr, Disney And Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins Jr., Disney's Beauty and The Beast Jr., Magic Tree House: A Night in New Orleans, Junie B. Jones the Musical, Princess Academy, and The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats.
Most recently, as Executive Director, Artistic Director and Founder of Alive & Kickin, Michael collaborated with Stages Theatre Company on Peace 4 the Ages, first-of-its kind intergenerational collaboration between Stages Theatre Company and Alive & Kickin. The project brought together youth and elders in an artistic exploration of the question “What does peace mean to you?”
Out of Peace 4 the Ages, a beautiful documentary, available below, was created by Fischeye Films, giving viewers a behind the scenes look at the creation of the piece. It also gives you a tiny glimpse of the enormous impact Michael Matthew Ferrell had on everyone he met. Stages Theatre Company honors Mr. Michael with this video tribute.
We extend our deepest condolences to everyone this incredible human graced with his talent, energy, enthusiasm, and courage. His immense impact on our lives at Stages and on this entire community will never be forgotten.
Please keep Michael, his friends & family in your thoughts & prayers.

Founded in 2010 by Michael Matthew Ferrell, Alive & Kickin is the Twin Cities’ premier senior rock ensemble. It began its journey as a touring vocal ensemble of seniors who rock. The rock ensemble is comprised of seniors ages 60-99+. Now, a full decade later, Alive & Kickin has grown to redefine what it means to grow older. Alive & Kickin’ supports and serves our senior population through the craft of music, empowerment of self-expression and the belief that you’re never too old to pursue your passion.
The enthusiastic ensemble has been performing to sold-out crowds at the Bloomington Center for the Arts for several years and tours around the upper midwest to a myriad of venues from the Minnesota State Fair to senior-living communities.
Alive & Kickin gives voice to seniors through personal stories and popular songs, empowering its members to entertain and enlighten multi-generational audiences. The highly inspirational group of spirited and charismatic seniors spread their musical message as they explore contemporary genres of music ranging from rock & roll and pop to gospel and Motown.
