Dramatic play, music, and creative movement foster a sense of discovery, empathy, and confidence in young people, while also being an excellent outlet for energy & fun! Imaginative play lays the groundwork for collaborative learning and critical thinking skills, as well as cognitive and social-emotional development. Watch as your little one develops their inner artist and see their creativity bloom!

  • Story Drama: Ages 3-4 (Drop-off)

    Each class highlights a new story, with a new jumping off point for dramatic adventure. Using our favorite books as our guide, we’ll discover characters, and journey through different environments to tell stories.

    We will dance, sing, play instruments, and more as we make music together! Guided by music & creative movement teaching artists, this class is designed for the young person that lights up, stomps, shouts, claps & spins as soon as the music comes on!

    Using their imaginations as their guide, students explore their actor tools—body, voice, and imagination—and learn what it means to perform for an audience with confidence. Classes incorporate age-appropriate acting games, creative play, music, storytelling, and theatre making. Students share their work for family and friends during the final day of class.



    K Stage (Kindergarten)

    Students use their body, voice, and imagination to travel to new worlds to devise and tell stories. Students will go on a session-long imagination quest, adding more to their tale each week. Working as an ensemble, students will create and play the characters they encounter along the way!

    First Stage (Grade 1)

    Explore stories, create characters and play theatre games designed to build actor tools – body, voice, imagination. Students will learn what it means to perform for an audience with confidence as they transition imaginative play to acting performance!

    Center Stage (Grades 2-3)

    Students build self-confidence, performance and acting skills as they use their body, voice, and imagination to create characters, construct scenes, perform scripts and practice beginning musical theatre skills.

    Students build acting tools and creative collaboration skills while devising a performance based on thematic inspiration.

    WINTER SESSION : Let’s Do a Show!
    Students explore character creation and storytelling through the rehearsal of a short, scripted play.

    Stages Acting Conservatory is designed as a comprehensive actor training program for youth performers in Grades 4-12. The classes are designed to build skills over time and allow students to delve into the actor training process. There are entry points in the program for students to join at any time and at any level of experience.

    JUNIOR CONSERVATORY ACTOR TRAINING PROGRAM

    Junior Conservatory Acting Training Program (Grades 4-6)

    Students delve into their actor training through a program designed to build performance skills and confidence as well as develop student artists for success in whatever they may pursue. Students examine devised and scripted work, explore the use of body, voice, and imagination to create characters, learn ensemble-building and acting techniques, and work through the rehearsal process.
  • Classes are designed to build skills over time.
  • Students may enter the program at any grade level and with any level of experience.
  • Students receive a written evaluation based on age-appropriate actor training benchmarks after each session.
  • Each session ends in a performance showcase for family and friends.

    WINTER SESSION:
    Students build acting skills through the exploration of scenes and ensemble building exercises.     Junior Musical Theatre (Grades 5 – 6)

    Students learn to tell stories through the art of musical theatre and develop skills in singing, dancing, and acting. Students learn to portray characters through singing, dancing, and acting in musical theatre scenes, songs and show-stopping numbers.
    FALL SESSION:
    Triple Threat - Students learn acting, singing, and dancing technique while exploring the contemporary musical theatre canon.

    TEEN CONSERVATORY ACTOR TRAINING PROGRAM

    TEEN ACTING CONSERVATORY
    PROGRAM (Grades 7 - 12)


    An in-depth training program for the teen performer that utilizes standard professional training methods and helps students form a solid foundation for acting and growth as an individual, performing artist. Designed for the teen performer to develop acting and musical theatre skills and performance confidence for success on stage and at auditions.
  • All classes within the Teen Conservatory program run the length of the school year and are designed for multiple years of participation and training.
  • Students receive a written evaluation of age-appropriate, actor training benchmarks at the end of each term.
  • A performance showcase for family and friends is presented at the end of each term.

    Teen Actor Training (Grades 7-12)

    Students learn to prepare their body, mind, and voice for performance; study how to approach a script; make strong character choices; and work as an ensemble. Students explore improvisation and engage in monologues and scenes from the contemporary theatre.

This includes learning dance and singing technique along with consistent character expression through acting, singing, and dancing.     Teen Advanced Training (Grades 8-12)


    Students in Teen Advanced Training* continue to engage in an in-depth practice in a variety of performance styles and theatre making designed to challenge, grow, and hone their acting and theatre making skills. Two performance styles are offered each year on a rotating basis. Students can choose to take the Monday Class or the Saturday Class or both classes. 

    * Students must complete at least one year of Teen Actor Training to qualify for Teen Advanced Training. If your student is interested in Teen Advanced Training but has not completed Teen Actor Training, please contact the Education Director

    Teen Advanced Training (Grades 8-12)

    DIRECTOR’S LAB – MONDAYS
    Students learn directing techniques through choosing and directing a 10-minute play with students in the class as their acting pool. The class concludes with a 10-minute play festival in the spring.

    MASTER CLASS – SATURDAYS
    Students study with experts in the field to explore different disciplines, including SHAKESPEARE, STAGE COMBAT, IMPROVISATION, CAMERA ACTING and PUPPETRY. A student-driven showcase is presented at both the mid-term and final performance.

    SPRING TRAINING BOOT CAMPS- Grades 5-12

    Stages Spring Training Boot Camps are spring intensives for students who are eligible to audition for productions at Stages Theatre Company. Classes are offered for five weeks in spring each year. They are designed to help students develop skills and techniques to build confidence and success at auditions.

    Spring Training Boot Camps: Audition Techniques
    In this 5-week, 20-hour spring intensive, students learn to show their best at an audition, including prepared monologues and songs, cold readings, cold singing, and dance auditions. The class includes a mock audition –both prepared monologues and songs and a callback. The class is taught by three instructors –a acting coach, singing coach, and dance coach.

    Spring Training Boot Camps: Singing & Dancing Technique
    This 5-week, 20-hour spring intensive is designed for student to develop their singing and dancing skills. The class concentrates on singing lessons with a professional voice teacher and dance training with a professional choreographer. Success on the musical theatre stage requires building the essential skills of singing and dancing. This class focuses exclusively on those skills.

    TUITION ASSISTANCE


    Tuition assistance is available through our Open Door Program, we offer need-based tuition assistance for our fee-based programs, such as our Winter and Summer Theatre workshops, Creative Play Academy and Acting Conservatory.     CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS


    You may cancel your workshop at any point, for any reason prior to the following cancellation deadlines receive a full refund – minus the $5 handling fee.

    • Fall Session: September 10th, 2021

    • Spring Session: March 25th, 2022

    FACE COVERINGS 


    Masks are required for all students, faculty, interns and staff, regardless of vaccination status, for the entirety of fall session. 

    • Face shields and neck gaiters are not considered acceptable face coverings 
    • Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle; there will NOT be a snack break and food consumption will not be allowed during class 
    • Should your student require a face covering accommodation, the Education Director must be notified and approve of the accommodation prior to the first day of class 

     

    SOCIAL DISTANCING 


    Stages Theatre Company teaching artists will adapt activities to allow for at least 3 feet of distancing whenever possible. 

    • Class sizes continue to be reduced for student safety: Early Stages (max. 8), Primary Stages (max. 12), Junior & Teen Conservatory (max. 14) 

     

    HAND WASHING, AIR FILTRATION, AND CLEANING 


    • All students will be required to wash hands or sanitize prior to the start of each class, and before and after touching any provided materials (markers, props, etc.) 
    • HVAC systems in all STC Education locations have been updated to allow for optimal air filtration 
    • Classroom spaces and bathrooms are professionally sanitized and cleaned frequently 

     

    DROP OFF 


    We will begin checking students in NO EARLIER than 10 MINUTES prior to class start. 

    1. Students can be dropped off at the Main Entrance of the building/school in the designated loading zone. 
    1. Pull into the open space closest to the Stages sign. 
    1. Please stay in your vehicle. Our staff will meet students at the vehicle.  
    1. A brief COVID screening questionnaire will be completed each day at your vehicle; students with COVID-19 symptoms will not permitted in class unless they present a negative COVID-19 test. Please stay home if your student is sick. 
    1. Our staff will then walk students into the building to begin class! 

    **Emergency Contact numbers will also be confirmed on Day 1** 

     

    Please Note: We will NOT be allowing adults to enter the building during drop off and pick up as a COVID-19 safety protocol. 

     

    PICK UP 


    Pick up will begin promptly at the end of class. 

    1. Students can be picked up at the Main Entrance of the building/school in the designated loading zone. 
    1. Pull into the open space closest to the Stages sign. 
    1. STAY IN YOUR VEHICLE 
    1. Our staff will direct traffic and walk students to vehicles.

    POSITIVE COVID-19 CASES 


    If a student, faculty member, intern or staff person tests positive for COVID-19 your family will be notified by a Stages staff member. 

    • Classes with a close contact exposure will temporarily transition to a virtual platform to allow for the appropriate quarantine period per the Minnesota Department of Health’s current recommendation.  

     

    LAST DAY SHARING 


    Stages Theatre Company continues to closely monitor COVID-19 recommendations from the Minnesota Department of Health and the CDC. Last Day Sharing specifics will be published and sent to families 2 weeks prior to the last day of class.
