CREATIVE PLAY
Ages 2-5

Dramatic play, music, and movement build confidence in young people…while also being an excellent outlet for energy & fun! Creative play lays the groundwork for collaborative learning, fosters social-emotional and motor skills development, and cultivates a sense of discovery & empathy in young students. Watch as your little one develops their inner artist and see their creativity bloom!

 

Play-A-Day: Ages 2-3 (Stay & Play)

Activate your child’s creative side through a guided stay-and-play class that includes a new story each week, music, movement, and sensory play! Teaching Artists will play alongside you, guiding each young person and their caregiver through a sensory-stimulating, fun-filled, creative story time. 
Location: Hopkins Center for the Arts 
Tuition: $140.00 (includes $5 handling fee) 
Fridays, September 20 – November 22 from 9-9:45am - HOPKINS

 


Story Drama: Ages 3-4 (Drop-off) 

Each class highlights a new story, with a new jumping off point for dramatic adventure. Using our favorite books as our guide, students will journey through different environments, discover characters, and solve problems using their bodies, voices & imaginations! 
Location: Hopkins Center for the Arts 
Tuition: $185.00 (includes $5 handling fee) 

Tuesdays, September 24 – November 19 from 10:45-11:45am - HOPKINS

 


Drama Adventures: Ages 4-5 (Drop-off) 

Your student’s imagination will be our guide as we traverse on epic dramatic adventures! Together, we’ll discover characters, travel to new and surprising worlds, tackle obstacles, and solve problems as we create a brand-new story each week.  
Location: Hopkins Center for the Arts 
Tuition: $185.00 (includes $5 handling fee) 

Fridays, September 20 – November 22 from 10-11am - HOPKINS

Location: PiM Arts High School (Eden Prairie)

MINI
SUMMER THEATRE
WORKSHOPS
AGES 3-4

Each day of Summer Theatre Workshop for Ages 3-4 will highlight a new story, with a new jumping-off point for dramatic adventure. Using our favorite books as our guide, students will journey through different environments, discover characters, and solve problems using their “Actor Tools” – their bodies, voices & imaginations! Families are invited to a sharing of skills learned throughout the week on the last day of workshop.  

Location: Hopkins Center for the Arts - 1111 Mainstreet, Hopkins, MN 55343

Tuition: $135 including a $5 handling fee.

 

Royal Rumpus (Ages 3-4)

Imagine the stories we could create if all of our favorite royal characters came to one Summer Theatre Workshop! Guided by a Stages Theatre Company Teaching Artist, students will jump into fantastical tales inspired by the fanciest characters. We’ve made a royal decree: join us this summer for a really royal rumpus to remember!

Up, Up & Away (Ages 3-4)

Let your imagination take FLIGHT this summer! Using our favorite stories as our jumping-off point, we will grow wings, soar high above the clouds, and explore far beyond the rainbow. Nothing is out of reach as we use our “Actor Tools” to transform into fairies, dragons, butterflies, alicorns and many more magical winged creatures!

WAITLISTS: Though we cannot guarantee we will be able to offer a spot to your student, we highly recommend joining the waitlist for any class that is currently full. If we are able to offer you a spot you will be contacted and given a window within which to claim your spot. If you have registered for an alternate class, you will have the option to transfer the cost of tuition to your preferred class.

THEATRE
EXPLORATION
Kindergarten - Grade 3 

Students learn to use their “Actor Tools”—body, voice, and imagination – to play, create and tell stories! Theatre Exploration classes incorporate age-appropriate acting games, dramatic play, music, storytelling, and theatre making. Students share their work for family and friends during the final day of class.

 

K Stage (Kindergarten) 

Students use their body, voice, and imagination to travel to new worlds to devise and tell stories. Using books as their jumping off point, students go on imagination quests, trying new tales each week. Working as an ensemble, students will create and play the characters they encounter along the way! 
Tuition: $230.00 (includes $5 handling fee)

First Stage (Grade 1) 

Students build self-confidence, creativity, and performance skills as they use their body, voice, and imagination to create characters within the world of the story! Using their actor tools, students will go on imagination quests, create stories through book-based inspiration, and devise original tales.

Center Stage (Grades 2-3) 

Explore stories, create characters, and play theatre games designed to build actor tools – body, voice, imagination. Students will learn what it means to perform for an audience with confidence as they transition imaginative play to acting performance! Students engage their body, voice and imagination while devising a performance through book-based inspiration and short-scripted plays. 
Tuition: $295.00 (includes $5 handling fee)

ACTOR TRAINING
Grades 4-8

Students delve into their actor training through a series of classes designed to build performance skills and confidence and develop student artists for success in whatever they may pursue. Students examine devised and scripted work, explore the use of body, voice, and imagination to create characters, learn ensemble-building and acting techniques, and work through the rehearsal process.  

 

Acting (Grades 4-5 and Grades 6-8) 

 Through theatre games, guided improvisation activities, and scene work, students learn how to develop a character within a story. This class focuses on forming a solid foundation for acting and growth as an individual performing artist.  
Locations: Hopkins (Hopkins Center for the Arts) OR Eden Prairie (PiM Arts High School) 
Tuition: $295.00 (Hopkins) and $335.00 (Eden Prairie)

Musical Theatre

(Grades 4-5 and Grades 6-8) 


Success on the musical theatre stage requires high levels of technique in three disciplines: singing, dancing, and acting. Students will strengthen skills and learn to tell stories through the art of musical theatre by learning and rehearsing musical theatre scenes, songs, and show-stopping dance numbers. Each Musical Theatre class is co-taught by two instructors – one dance instructor & one vocal music instructor. 
Locations: Hopkins (Hopkins Center for the Arts) OR Eden Prairie (PiM Arts High School) 
Tuition: $295.00 (Hopkins) and $335.00 (Eden Prairie)

TEEN PROGRAMS

Guiding youth drawn to careers in the theatre arts.

Providing comprehensive, youth-powered, theatrical experiences exclusively for high school students in Grades 9-12. Teen programs are designed to provide arts access for all teens - fostering passion for those interested in theatrical careers, and high-quality arts engagement for those who are curious to try something new.

 

PIZZA & PLAYWRIGHTS

Grades 9-12

See a play in process. Eat pizza. Meet the creators.
Get behind the scenes with the highly acclaimed, national and local playwrights & Twin Cities’ theatre makers bringing this season’s most exciting new works to life. In partnership with the University of Minnesota, History Theatre, Theater Mu, and Yellow Tree Theatre, high school students will have an insiders’ look at up to three new plays in process (rehearsal, preview or performance), and join the playwrights and other theater creators over pizza to discuss the writing and development process.

INTERNSHIPS (Seasonal)

In order to support Stages Theatre Company’s robust theatre education program, Stages Theatre Company hires student interns who are rising high school juniors up through seniors in college (or age equivalent) to serve as model students and administrative and classroom support for Summer Theatre Workshops running from mid-June through mid-August. Applications are accepted in January or February for the upcoming summer. Check back soon!

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS


You may cancel your class or workshop up to THREE WEEKS prior to the start of class, for any reason, and receive a full refund – minus the $5 handling fee. Call the Education Registrar at 952-979-1113.

Stages Theatre Company will continue to follow the advice and guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health and the CDC.  The safety & well-being of our students, staff and teaching artists is our top priority, and we reserve the right to change our protocols if community levels of COVID-19 rise in our area.

Drop Off/Pick Up at the
Hopkins Center for the Arts:

 

Curbside Drop Off Instructions

  1. Ten minutes prior to the start of class, Stages Theatre Company Administrators will be ready to begin drop off. Administrators will be outside with clipboards in hand.
  2. On Mainstreet, there will be a yellow Stages sign close to 12th Avenue. Pull into the open space closest to the Stages sign and wait for an Administrator with a clipboard to approach your vehicle.
  3. Please stay in your vehicle with your student. Our staff will approach the vehicle’s passenger-side window. On the first day, we will check Emergency Contacts’ phone numbers. If you assist your child in getting out of the vehicle, you are welcome to do so.
  4. The Administrator will escort the student inside to meet their teacher and fellow classmates.

Walk-In Drop Off Instructions

*Please note, Administrators will prioritize Curbside Drop Off for student safety.
  1. Please utilize legal street parking or Hopkins City lot parking.
  2. Enter the Hopkins Center for the Arts via the main entrance at the East end of the building, Mainstreet and 11th Avenue. We will be congregating at the West end of the building.
  3. Please wait with your student until approached by an Administrator with a clipboard. If multiple families choose to walk in, please form a line. On the first day, we will check Emergency Contacts’ phone numbers.
  4. The Administrator will escort the student to meet their teacher and fellow classmates.
  5. If you would like to meet your student’s Teaching Artist and wait with them until they begin class, please let the Administrator know. Otherwise, you are welcome to leave after the Administrator checks your student in.
Regardless of how you choose to drop off on the first day, you are welcome to participate in Curbside Drop Off in the future.
Pick Up will operate similarly to drop off. Pull into the next open spot on Mainstreet, an Administrator will approach your vehicle and ask who you are picking up. Administrators will bring your student to your vehicle. If you park and enter the lobby, please wait until a Stages Theatre Company staff member dismisses your student to leave with them.

  3. There will be a Stages Theatre Company Administrator outside. Please park and walk your child up to meet the Administrator by the door. On the first day, we will check Emergency Contacts’ phone numbers.
  4. The Administrator will escort the student to meet their teacher and fellow classmates.
  5. If you would like to meet your student’s Teaching Artist and wait with them until they begin class, please let the Administrator know. Otherwise, you are welcome to leave after the Administrator checks your student in.
Ten minutes prior to the end of class, please park in the smaller West parking lot and enter the building. An Administrator will be present to show you where to go. At the end of each class, guests are invited to a brief sharing. The Teaching Artist will open the door of the classroom when they are ready to invite everyone in.

  2. At PiM Arts High School, the parking lot is a circle surrounding the building. When you enter the parking lot, follow the flow of traffic to the left toward the front entrance.
    There will be a yellow Stages sign set up, marking the front of the drop off line. Pull into the open space closest to the Stages sign and wait for an Administrator with a clipboard to approach your vehicle.
    There may be a long line. Please look to Administrators for further directions if needed.
  3. Please stay in your vehicle with your student. Our staff will approach the vehicle’s passenger-side window. On the first day, we will check Emergency Contacts’ phone numbers. If you assist your child in getting out of the vehicle, you’re welcome to do so.
  4. The Administrator will escort the student to meet their teacher and fellow classmates.

  3. Please wait with your student until approached by an Administrator with a clipboard. If multiple families choose to walk in, please form a line. On the first day, we will check Emergency Contacts’ phone numbers.
  4. The Administrator will escort the student to meet their teacher and fellow classmates.
  5. If you would like to meet your student’s Teaching Artist and wait with them until they begin class, please let the Administrator know. Otherwise, you are welcome to leave after the Administrator checks your student in.
